Back pain is a prevalent issue, particularly among those over 45, it can arise from various causes, including muscle strain, disc damage, and conditions like sciatica, spinal stenosis, or degenerative disc disease. The discomfort can be persistent and debilitating, affecting our daily life.
Common Causes of Back Pain
Disc Issue: Bulging or herniated discs can press on nerves, leading to pain and discomfort. Muscles Strain: Overexertion or improper lifting techniques often cause muscle strain.
Structural Problems: Conditions such as scoliosis and osteoporosis impact spinal integrity.
Nerve Impingement: Sciatica caused by pressure on the sciatic nerve, results in sharp pain down the leg.
Symptoms to Watch For
The primary symptom of back pain is an ache that can radiate to the buttocks and legs. Other symptoms include:
Persistent pain that doesn’t improve with rest
Pain that radiates down the legs, especially below the knees, numbness of tingling in the legs
Weakness in the legs
